Listening Initiative

The World Health Organisation estimates that 1.1 billion people worldwide are at risk of hearing loss caused by personal audio devices and entertainment. The link between personal listening habits and the development of hearing loss and tinnitus is poorly understood, in part because many studies have relied on self-report, which can be unreliable.

BTA Loudness Study is a research app developed by the University of Southampton and University College London, funded by the British Tinnitus Association. The app measures the loudness and length of time spent listening to music on smartphones and will give insight into the relationship between music listening and hearing-related disorders.
